What's the Good word (Juniors):
‘What’s the Good Word?’ for students of classes 6, 7 and 8 was held on September 1, 2008, in the school auditorium.
The four teams were chosen after qualifying in the first two preliminary rounds. Each team comprised one student each, from classes 6, 7 and 8.

The competition gave the participants the opportunity to display their knowledge of vocabulary. The nine rounds included Complete the Proverbs, Guess the Word, Scrabble Round, Acronyms, Abbreviations and Short Forms, Pick your Question, Homonyms, Compound Words, Spelling Round and finally the exciting Rapid Fire Round.
The audience too had their chance to try their skill when questions were posed to them. Sharan Suresh of class VIII C welcomed the audience while Keerthana Saravanan of class VIII D proposed the vote of thanks. The hosts for the competition were Aatreyi Mitra, Kavya Mariam Jacob and Faizan Shaikh, all students of class XI.

English Elocution (Juniors):
The English Elocution Competition for Juniors was held on 18 August 2008 in the school auditorium. Students from Classes 6, 7 and 8 participated in the competition. A variety of poems, passages and speeches were presented by the participants with poise and confidence which enthralled the audience. It was an interesting, educative and enjoyable afternoon for all the students of the Middle School who witnessed the competition.

English Elocution (Seniors):
Young Speakers in the forefront

The English Elocution Competition for seniors was held on 31st May 2008 in the ISG auditorium. The comperes were Archita Menon, Vivek Kumar Ashoka and Anchal Kapoor.

Four students each from classes 9 to 12 were selected to compete in the final round.
The judges for the competition were Mrs. Rekha Jacob, Mrs. Rosanna Mendonsa, Mrs. Reema Srivastava.
The winners of the competition were :

English Debate (Seniors):
TOPIC: MODERN LIFESTYLE IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE BREAKDOWN OF THE FAMILY

Is modern lifestyle contributing to the breakdown of the family? This is what students of classes IX, X, XI and XII were debating about, at the English debate for senior classes of the Indian School Al Ghubra.

The venue was the ISG auditorium and the debate was held on June 1st. The chairperson, Nihitha Mohan assisted by Asmeet Bhatia and Nishkriya Kalyanaraman, introduced the topic and greeted the judges, participants and the audience.
The judges at the event were Mr M.V.Jose, Mrs Deepali Bhatnagar and Mrs Shalini G who are all well versed in public speaking.
The opening Speaker,
Rohit Prasad (Class XII) and his team members comprising Mohit
Rajadhyaksha (Class XII), Shyam Narayan (Class X), Glynn George (Class
XII) and Archita Menon (Class XII) were of the strong opinion that
modern
lifestyle
with its technology, modern gadgets and busy life is taking its toll on
the family.
However Mahalaxmi S (Class X), Aatreyi Mitra (XI), Shamak Dutta (Class IX), Abheek A (Class IX) and Vignesh Sushratha (Class XI) maintained that modern lifestyle is not to be blamed but the lack of patience and understanding among others is the main cause for disintegration of the family. They opined that the hectic schedule has given rise to the concept of quality time with family.
Glynn George was adjudged the best speaker of the day. Architha Menon secured the second position. The third position was shared by Vignesh Sushratha and Shamak Dutta.
The judges were quite impressed by the views expressed and the confidence with which all the participants spoke on the topic.
